The Mail Trail is back - with a whole host of new toppers to showcase to the public.
This year's highlights include a topper celebrating World Piano Day, and others featuring the skatepark, a woolly skeleton and a sunbathing hippo, Fans can also expect sea creatures, seagulls, dinosaurs and some ice cream. Group contributions from Exmouth Yarnbombers and others showcase the collective spirit of the community.
Each postbox is sponsored by a local business, with every penny they donate going directly to Hospicare. Sponsors so far include Thompson Jenner Chartered Accountants, Ladram Bay, Stuart Line Cruises, Exmouth A Capella, Live to Learn Education Ltd, and the Rock Choir. There are still some toppers who need a sponsor.
Updates can be followed on Facebook and Instagram. Or donate to keep the Mail Trail going https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/exmouthmailtrail2024
Founder Clare Suttie said: "The initiative, renowned for its yarnbombers' artistic flair, boasts a diverse team of volunteers, including skilled crafters, business sponsors, and dedicated postbox topper installation and maintenance crews.
"It brings an infectious joy that yarnbombing brings to the community, and to the summer visitors. The Mail Trail features handmade and uniquely crafted toppers that tell stories in crochet and knitting, each a testament to the community's creativity."
The organizers, Bryony, Clare and Lynn preserve repaire, and repurpose the postbox toppers for sustainability, ensuring a minimal impact on the surroundings.
The project traces its roots back to 2019, sparked by a meeting between Clare Suttie and Sarah Smith from Hospiscare. Clare, along with friend Candy, embarked on the first Postboxes fundraising campaign in Hertfordshire in 2018. With just 23 toppers, the campaign raised over £4,000.
