Budleigh Salterton will be represented on the national stage when Stuart M Smith joins the reast of the England croquet team for an international match with Spain at Roehampton in June.
This will be the fourth test match played between England and Spain, originally played to encourage the development of competitive croquet at an international level between the two counties.
The 2023 match was played in Spain at the Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro. England won the test with a convincing 18-8 victory to reclaim the title from Spain who won in 2022.
In a report to the Croquet Gazette referring to the development of croquet in Spain, J-P Moberly, England Team Captain, wrote: “Their passion for the game has started to spill over on to the international scene, with Spain contesting Tier 1 of the 2025 GC World Team Championship (Openshaw Shield) and their top players making inroads to the serious stages of World Championships.”
