Climate Change was on the agenda for one of the latest sessions at the Seachange Centre in Budleigh Salterton.
Active Minds, which provides cognitive stimulation for those with memory loss, spent a stimulating afternoon crafting moths as part of mass participation art installation project - ‘Moths to a Flame’, which is run by The Art and Energy Collective.
The moths, chosen as a metaphor for our relationship with energy, will be a small but significant part of the estimated 20,000 moths going to Glasgow botanic gardens for COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, in November.
As well as an opportunity to get creative with plastic milk bottles and UV pens, the moths also stimulated discussion about climate change.
Active Minds launched at Seachange in April this year. It is now offering a new morning and afternoon group on a Monday, in addition to Wednesday and Friday.
The groups are designed to stimulate and engage those with mild to moderate dementia and aims to delay cognitive deterioration.
Ann Challis’s daughter said: "Mum so looks forward to attending Active Minds every Friday. We as a family can see the improvements in her mood and general memory – it’s fabulous."
