Budleigh Salterton’s Lions Club has come to the aid of families struggling this Christmas.
Members of the club made hampers for families of pupils at St Peter’s Primary School who have had a difficult year.
The school chose 13 families to benefit from the kind-hearted gesture and deputy headteacher Mr Lee delivered them in his car.
Headteacher Steve Hitchcock said: “This is such a wonderful thing to do for our community – a big thanks to the Lions.”
As a school, St Peter’s has also distributed £3,500 in cash, vouchers and gift cards this Christmas.
Mr Hitchcock said the money has come from a local benefactor – who wishes to remain anonymous – St Peter’s Church and an East Devon District Council grant.
The headteacher hailed the community as ‘amazing’ for raising the four-figure sum.
