A local history project in Woodbury, which hopes to make it easier to access historical materials from the past 200 years, has received financial support thanks to members of Devon County Council.
Councillor Jeff Trail, Councillor Richard Scott and Councillor Christine Channon agreed to award £750 between them from their locality budgets to the Woodbury Local History Society.
The money will help with the cost of a project by the society to digitise some 46 old books, ledgers and manuscripts of life in Woodbury from the year 1808 onwards.
Many of these items are said to be in a poor condition, but present a unique look at village life before our time.
They are now being saved from extinction, and when processed are being uploaded on to the society’s website at www.woodburyhistorysociety.co.uk, where they can be viewed by the public.
