Young and old came together for acts of remembrance in Budleigh Salterton and East Budleigh on Sunday, November 13.
The Rev Martin Jaques, who officiated at both events, said they were ‘very moving’, uniting the generations in honouring those lost in conflicts.
In East Budleigh the events began with the Eucharist at All Saint’s Church, and the group then made their way to the war memorial for the laying of wreaths. The names of East Budleigh’s war dead were read out by four local children, followed by a two-minute silence and a blessing.
In Budleigh Salterton a service was held at the war memorial at 2pm, with prayers and the laying of wreaths. The group then moved on to St Peter’s Church for a service attended by around 100 people, in which the Rev Jaques talked about his own family’s experiences of WWI and WWII. Then the names of Budleigh’s war dead were read out.
Rev Jaques praised the younger members of the congregation for their quiet and respectful behaviour during the solemn service.
