Budleigh Probus Club held their first meeting of the New Year at the Fairlynch Museum.
The talk, named 'the making of a museum,' was held by Trevor Waddington. Trevor, a club member, is also chairman of the museum.
The talk initially covered the history of the house and how it was later purchased and became a museum in 1967.
Trevor then moved on to the development of the museum and its collection up to the present day.
The museum is a charity, funded mainly by subscriptions, grants and donations, managed and staffed by volunteers.
The talk, which highlighted the importance of the museum to the town, was both informative and entertaining and well received by members.
The next meeting is on Thursday, February 2 when the speaker is Richard Doorbar and his talk is entitled - 'my experience of teaching at Eton.'
Richard who has a wide-ranging experience as a teacher in both the state and private sector, has recently returned from a year teaching at Eton and will give an insight as to what it is like to teach in the UK’s best known public school.
In February, it is launching a monthly luncheon club, which will be held in the clubhouse of East Devon Golf Club. Members and their wives and friends will be welcome to attend.
The club has welcomed several new members in recent times and is always pleased to have guests come along to meetings, where they are assured of a warm welcome.
It meets in the clubhouse of Budleigh Salterton Football Club on Greenway Lane on the first and third Thursday of the month.
If you would like to attend, contact Peter Walker on 01395 445350 or Stephen Lacey on 01395 445823.
