Home Instead East Devon and Exeter have made a pledge to be an Age-Friendly Employer.

The company is the first care provider in the south west to sign up to become a age friendly employer.

Established in 2022 by the Centre for Aging Better, this nationwide programme includes employers that recognise the importance and value of ‘older’ workers, being employees aged 50 and over.

The company have pledged to take ongoing actions to support the recruitment, retention and development of all workers, older colleagues included.

Co-owner/directo Vanessa McGlade said: “We have always known that the diversity of our team contributes greatly towards our outstanding rating, and undoubtedly enables us to provide the person-centred care that we aspire to for our clients.”

“Our ethos is to see the person, not the age, when it comes to our valued clients, and the signing of this pledge is just a continuation of that commitment for our team members too. We do our best to be a supportive employer and want to know what our colleagues need to succeed at all ages and stages, whether that’s help with the initial application process, our guidance with regard to Menopause, by supporting particular training or career goals, or through signposting towards external employee assistance programmes. It also helps that we are sociable bunch too and organise all kinds of events to bring our team members together.”

The company currently employ people aged 20 to 80 and Home Instead Exeter & East Devon continue to actively recruite across the community, offering great rates of pay and a range of contracts that the Company says, are adaptable and can fit around family life, along with fully funded introductory training and a host of work and social perks.
