Residents of The Homestead care home in Exmouth enjoyed a 'truly magical' experience when some birds of prey came in for a visit.
Last week Exmouth-based Hawkridge Bird of Prey Centre arranged to bring along an eagle owl, a barn owl and a little tawny owl. Residents were able to wear a protective glove and let the birds perch on their arms.
The visit was aimed at providing a special experience for many of the residents who have a deep love for nature, going back to their youth, but are now unable to get out into wildlife habitats.
One resident, Mrs H, said: "It was like a dream come true. I've always adored birds, but never did I imagine I'd have the chance to see them up close like this. Today has been truly magical."
People visiting relatives at the care home also enjoyed seeing the owls. One visitor said: "It was a lovely surprise to visit Mum and witness these beautiful birds. What a delightful experience!"
The manager of Homestead Care Home, Claire McMahon, said: "It was an incredibly special day.
"We have recently expanded our activities and outings and now have both Day Care and longer-term care available for residents, which has been lovely for everyone. We're especially excited to attend the church coffee morning next week."
