A new 'tiny forest' has been created in Exmouth.
It was planted in part of King George's Field, off Carter Avenue, on Wednesday, February 28.
'Tiny forests' are densely planted plots of native woodland trees and shrubs in a small space, about the size of a tennis court. The soil is enriched with organic matter to help the trees grow quickly, providing a habitat for wildlife and insects. The miniature forests also help to reduce the effects of climate change and improve air quality
The planting was planned and organised by Exmouth Tiny Forest Group in partnership with East Devon District Council and Park Life.
Many local residents came along to help with the planting, along with two classes from Exeter Road Primary School and a group of pupils from the Deaf Academy. The forest will provide a place for these pupils to connect with nature and learn about their environment, and they will continue to be involved in its aftercare and monitoring.
The Exmouth Tiny Forest Group hope that this will be the first of a number of similar projects in the East Devon area. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved, or would like to know more, can contact the group by emailing exmouthtinyforest@gmail.com
