East Devon District Council wants the public's say on its vision for Exmouth town and seafront over the next decade.
Following extensive consultations in summer 2022, the council has now shared its draft Placemaking Plan for Exmouth Town and Seafront.
It aims to set the blueprint for how Exmouth will develop, with numerous proposals due to be considered, subject to securing necessary funding and statutory consents.
Presented at the Placemaking in Exmouth Town and Seafront Group meeting on January 23, 2024, the plan outlines potential future developments and defines various short, medium, and long-term proposals.
Each proposal will be thoroughly assessed for viability and sustainability, taking into account the usual considerations such as environmental impact and site constraints.
The council has urged the public to contribute their thoughts about the plan through a questionnaire, which runs from March 1 until March 15.
Councillor Nick Hookway, EDDC’s portfolio holder for culture, leisure, sport and tourism, said: "The Exmouth Placemaking Plan is a strategic document that looks to the future with a dynamic and positive vision.
"The aims and intentions of EDDC regarding economic development and placemaking within Exmouth town and the seafront are set out within the plan for the next 10 years."
The plan was designed following consultation with residents and stakeholders, marking the first time that the entire seafront and town centre has been considered in this holistic manner.
It is poised to form part of the new Local Plan that is currently being developed, allowing for thoughtful and appropriate development.
Mr Hookway added: "There is a focus on cultural events which will not only help to attract visitors but also improve the health and wellbeing of residents".
Once adopted, the plan aims to provide a clear direction for Exmouth, encouraging business investments and making it easier for the council to pursue grant funding opportunities.
