More than 350 people attended the Budleigh Salterton Flower and Produce Show on Saturday, March 23 at the Public Hall.
There were 198 entries, plus entries from St Peter’s Primary School who exhibited decorated Easter Muffins. The school also submitted several entries of cress grown in an eggshell by whole classes.
The daffodils category attracted the largest number of entrants, but numbers were down due to the mild winter.
The judges commended all entrants on the fine quality of their submissions, despite the less than favourable weather experienced throughout the spring. Also in the hall was a highly successful ‘gardenalia’ stall and several popular plant outlets. Visitors enjoyed tea and cake supplied by Sue Palin and her team.
Several awards were made. David Waddington won the Hugget Trophy for most points for daffodils and the Furze Cup for best cactus, succulent or alpine.
Helen Tickle received the Mrs L A Papworth Cup for most points for camellias.
The joint prize-winners for the Warreleigh Challenge Cup for most points for hellebores were Diane Tremlett and Emma and George Brookes.
Diane Tremlett also won the Rosemullion Cup for best horticultural entry.
Bob Wiltshire took the prize for the best store cupboard/bake-off entry.
