Exmouth resident Roger Paine has started a nostalgic Facebook group, looking back at Samantha's Nightclub.
Mr Paine was resident DJ from 1976 until October 1981 and had an idea last Sunday to start a new Facebook page on the back of his weekly radio feature in his Sunday radio show on DevonAir Radio, 12- 2pm, called, ‘’Samantha’s Memories’’, where listeners email in with their memories of going to the club’s and select a memorable song to go with the memory.
Since it started, Roger says he’s been overwhelmed with 100s of emails since starting the feature, when he joined East Devon Radio, (now DevonAir Radio), in March 2023. He wanted to have a group where he can answer and openly share all these wonderful memories instantly, and that’s when he thought, it’s got to be a social media platform.

After researching the feature on all social media platforms, Paine quickly discovered there was no social media platform, or Facebook page, or group dedicated to the club's memory. He said: "When I was the resident DJ at the club, we used to get 500 people every night, Thursday to Saturday, so I knew there would be a large demand.
"Most residents of Exmouth, East Devon and all the surrounding villages and towns will have a memory of going to Samantha’s Night Club in Exmouth and its sister club in Exeter from 1974- 2008.
"The club was the fabric of most residents’ youth and attending was all part of growing up in the area, most regular night club goers had their first love, met their life partners, or it was there first job working on the numerous bars in the club."
Roger got together with a friend, who used to go to the club Wendy Wearn, Wendy said it was a fabulous Idea and agreed to be the main page manager.
Wendy said, ‘’I had no idea how popular it was going to be, I was instantly overwhelmed by requests to join the group, it’s taken up of 1,400 plus people joining in just 7 days is astonishing’’.
The group has now collected 100s of old photos, Videos, and memories on the Club.
