A person has died following an 'emergency incident' at Topsham Train Station on Tuesday afternoon (June 4).

Devon and Cornwall Police, the British Transport Police and emergency services were called at around 1pm following reports of a casualty on the train line.

Police have confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene. All trains were cancelled to Exeter and Exmouth via Topsham this afternoon after GWR reported an 'emergency incident' near Topsham station.

Great Western Railway trains have been cancelled, delayed or revised while emergency services deal with the incident. Disruption is still expected until 5pm.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "We were called to an area close to Topsham station shortly after 1pm today, Tuesday June 4, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Passengers are asked to use your train ticket on Stagecoach Bus routes; Route 57 between Exeter (Bus Station), Topsham (Station), Exton (Stop on A376), Lympstone (Stop on A376) and Exmouth (Parade).

Route B between Marsh Barton, Exeter St Thomas (Leisure Centre), Exeter (High St) and St James’ Park (Pennsylvania Rd).

Route H between Exeter (St David's), Exeter (Central) and Digby & Sowton (Station).

Routes I and J between Exeter (High St), Polsloe Bridge (Tarbet Ave), Digby, Newcourt (Newcourt Way) and Exeter (High St).

A GWR spokesman said: "Local bus ticket acceptance is now in place between Exeter St. Davids and Exmouth. During this disruption if you wish to use local buses as an alternative means of transport and the local bus is not accepting GWR tickets please purchase a ticket on the bus, keep it and send it, together with your train ticket, to us to claim for a refund."
