Budleigh Salterton Probus Club enjoyed a summer of lively social activities so far.

Whilst there has been the usual break from meetings at the Budleigh Salterton Football Club, the group made the most out of the sunshine with outings to Cadhay House and Gardens, two evenings at Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club, and golf trips to East Devon Golf Club.

These events also included a match against the Raleigh Probus Club and a social event for members and their partners.

The club's annual general meeting (AGM) took place on September 7, last year, when outgoing chairman, Tony Venning, handed over the reins to David Brittain, who will hold the position for the next 12 months.

Mr Venning reported on a successful year, during which seven new members joined the club.

He remarked that it had been a successful year, with some excellent speakers on diverse subjects.

The AGM was followed by a club meeting, where speaker, Ken Atherton, gave a talk based on his collection of Blackpool postcards.

This led to an engaging question-and-answer session.

Upcoming talks through to the end of October will cover various topics, such as 'Taking Liberties… a Life in Fiction', and 'Sky Diving'. Post-meeting lunches will be held at Budleigh Salterton Football Club.

On November 16, there is going to be a lunch at Victoria Hotel Sidmouth, with partners welcome to attend.

For those interested in attending, contact either Peter Walker on 01395 445350 or Peter Heron on 01395 27802.

Guests can be assured of a warm welcome.

There are 248 Probus clubs registered across the United Kingdom.

They provide regular opportunities for members to meet others in similar circumstances, with similar levels of interest, make new friends, and maintain and expand their interests.
