Care home staff and Exmouth's deputy mayor have put on a charity car wash to raise money for research into lung conditions.

Raleigh Manor staff were joined by Steve Gazzard for the car-washing session on Saturday (July 6) as a fundraiser for Sarah Wright’s Research Programme and the charity Asthma + Lung UK.

Despite Saturday's unfavourable weather, locals and visitors including Mayor Joe Whibley and Town Crier Roger Bourgein supported the event, which raised £115.20.

Steve Gazzard, who was head car washer for the day, said: “I am so grateful to the generous sponsorship of Choose At Home Carpets for their donation of the cleaning materials and to the very community-minded Raleigh Manor for hosting my event. It was a worthwhile effort and I am so appreciative of all the support.”

Gill Pratt, general manager of Raleigh Manor Care Home, said: "This is the second year we have hosting this Car Wash event. This is a very simple way for us to support our community and to raise further awareness and funding for this charity."
