The theme of this year’s Exmouth Festival is ‘Watch This Space’, with a focus on the stars and the planets – including Planet Earth.

Expect to see some ‘out of this world’ creations in the opening parade on Friday, July 19 – special family craft sessions have been held at Exmouth Library to make ‘space creatures’ to carry, and there’s another at A La Ronde on Wednesday.

During the festival, taking place from July 19-21, there will be space-themed walkabout characters and a family show, Team Moon, about the people who made the moon landings possible. There’s also a virtual reality film experience, provided by Exeter Science Centre.

Focusing on Planet Earth, there will be activities based on cutting carbon emissions and protecting the environment.

The theme also encompasses a 'space' for art and performance.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “As well as the home of black holes and red dwarfs, space is also the physical realm where things happen. It’s the place where anything becomes possible. It’s where we make room for people to express themselves through music, art and dance.

“You are invited to ‘Watch this Space’ as unexpected things appear around the town. Will you stumble upon walkabout characters, street theatre, a silent disco, live murals or circus shows? Are you prepared to enter the Custard Pie Olympics or experience alien axe-throwing? Or, who knows, maybe you will be part of a Bollywood flashmob, join a Time Machine Disco, swing some vintage dance moves, pollinate a flower, try Qi Gong or Muay Thai or some improv theatre.

“Open yourself up to the possibilities in our space, Exmouth Town and the Exmouth Community!”
