St Joseph's Catholic Primary School has been judged 'good' in its latest Ofsted report.
Inspectors visited the school, which is part of Plymouth Cast Multi-Academy Trust, in June and announced their findings earlier this month.
This was a non-graded inspection, aimed at checking that the school's 'good' rating from the last inspection was still appropriate.
The inspectors' report said St Joseph's is a 'caring school' whose pupils' behaviour 'reflects its ethos of kindness and respect'. They said children in the early years 'get off to a flying start' with plenty of learning activities that reflect their interests.
It said the older children are proud to take on leadership roles and the curriculum for pupils’ personal development is adapted to reflect the coastal region they live in.
The report also said the school and trust leaders have high aspirations for all pupils. They have built a culture where pupils are curious about learning, and put reading at the heart of the curriculum.
The only area suggested for improvement by the inspectors was ensuring that the school curriculum is better matched to what pupils know and can do. The inspectors said 'activities do not always support pupils to move forward in their learning. As a result, pupils do not build their knowledge as well as they should'.
On the whole it was a good report which also noted that 'most parents are very positive about their children’s experience at the school'.
