The Exmouth Knit and Chat gathered their 40 members at Wing's Bar on August 22 to celebrate 15 years of knitting.

Gathering at their established base for the past three years, the crafting enthusiasts not only crochet together every Thursday but find joy in convivial conversation.

Co-ordinator Sandra Witts showcased numerous pieces of intricate knitting crafted by the group members at the celebration.

In a heartfelt speech, group founder Howard Witts reflected on the founding motives and history of the group over a ten-minute talk.

Mr Witts said: "My wish was that the group would knit for good causes and would be a cosy social group where members could enjoy a morning together.

"All my aims for the group have come to fruition."

Howard further commended Sandra's remarkable efforts in efficiently managing the group during the pandemic.

Fueled mostly by wool donations from locals, the group has made a massive contribution to the community and beyond, in the form of approximately seventeen thousand knitted items.

These have included the premature baby unit at several hospitals, Age UK, boobs for Midwives, Children's Centre, homeless people, women's refuge, and many others.

A significant part of their knitting supports a Christian response to eastern Europe that distributes knitted items and Christmas boxes to the vulnerable in Ukraine and Moldova.

For one pound, members meet every Thursday at Wings Bar in Exmouth for knitting, cakes, biscuits, and hot beverages.

Welcoming novice knitters and wool donations, anyone interested can join by contacting Sandra on their website or visiting Wings Bar any Thursday between 10am and noon.
