Budleigh Salterton has been named the UK’s most electric-car-friendly beach for electric vehicle drivers.

The 2.5-mile beach is serviced by over 150 chargers nearby, which Gridserve claims makes the perfect spot for EV drivers to visit, charging up on the way home with salty hair and sandy toes.

Top 10 most EV-friendly beaches with a GRIDSERVE charger, number one is Budleigh Salterton.

Number two on the list is Moto in Exeter. Jumping to number four is Branscombe.

Whether you’re planning a day trip this bank holiday weekend, or thinking about where to book your next UK staycation, new research from technology-enabled sustainable energy company GRIDSERVE has revealed the UK’s best beaches for EV drivers up and down the country.

The research comes just ahead of the final month of GRIDSERVE’s summer promotion, with EV drivers receiving 20% off every charge when paying through the app. The new app helps users find the best charging location, with real-time, up-to-date availability statuses.

The final two weekends of August are also predicted to be some of the busiest with the August Bank Holiday directly followed by the final weekend of the summer break. Beach-goers can plan their trip around the best times to charge to avoid a queue.

GRIDSERVE data shows that on average, across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, the busiest time to charge is between 11am and 1pm.

By comparison, 9am and 3pm will be around 20% quieter. So, consider switching your lunchtime sandwich stop for a morning coffee stop or mid-afternoon post-beach break.

And, if your journey allows, charging before 8am or after 6pm is well worth it, as demand drops dramatically at these times.

Most of these sustainable beaches have nearby access to High Power chargers designed to charge your electric vehicle quickly to get your family back on the road. Each charger is also fitted with a combination of CCS and CHAdeMO connectors and is compatible with the GRIDSERVE app and contactless payment.

Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Experience Officer at GRIDSERVE, commented: “In the UK we’re spoilt for choice with beautiful beaches, from Scotland all the way down to Cornwall. At GRIDSERVE, we’re committed to making every coastal trip more sustainable by ensuring that EV chargers are conveniently available, so you can enjoy the natural beauty of the UK without ever having to worry about your journey.

“With over 190 locations available across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway and with more opening each month, GRIDSERVE is determined to continue to make EV charging quick and easy.”
