The Caped Crusader turned 85 this year, and to mark the occasion, the Vue cinema in Exeter is showcasing eight iconic Batman films.
Spanning multiple generations of the beloved DC character, the celebration will feature a range of films revisiting different portrayals of Batman, from Val Kilmer and George Clooney to Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson.
The screenings will be jumpstarted with not one but two animated fan favourites. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm returns to the big screen, where Batman finds himself wrongly implicated in a series of mob boss murder, carried out by a new vigilante assassin.
Following that, The Lego Batman Movie brings a lighter tone, as Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City – all while dealing with the challenges of accidentally adopting a teenage orphan.
Live action classics are also making a comeback, starting with Batman Forever. In this film, Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego must confront the villainous duo of Two-Face and the Riddler.
When former District Attorney Harvey Dent incorrectly believes Batman caused the courtroom accident leaving him disfigured, he unleashes terror on the good people of Gotham,
Fans can also catch Batman & Robin, where the dynamic duo teams up to thwart Gotham City’s latest threats, including the seductive yet dangerous Poison Ivy.
Perhaps needing no introduction, all three films from The Dark Night Trilogy will also be screening. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Night Rises follow Batman as he navigates the complexities of multiple identities, both as Gotham’s protector and playboy millionaire, as well as his day-to-day role.
Finally, the latest interpretation of the Capped Crusader, The Batman, will also be screened – a film that delves far into Bruce Wayne’s dark past as he is taunted by a sadistic serial killer.
Toby Bradon, General Manager for Vue UK & Ireland said: “With a rich history spanning an impressive 85 years, it’s no wonder that we’ve seen so many incarnations of DC’s most famous character. Whether you’ve seen them a dozen times or not at all, nothing compares to seeing these films the way they were meant to be shown – on the big screen”.
The screening will take place over a few weeks, starting on August 30 with Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and The Lego Batman Movie. Tickets start at £4.99 when booked online, and full listings are available on the Vue website.
