Dementia nurses are set to skydive, shave heads, and deadlift in a bid to raise funds.

Nurses from The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have taken on the challenges to mark World Alzheimer's Month this September.

The team of four, Hayley Pye, Erika Favero, Debbie Bickel, and Hannah Spiller, aim to raise awareness about the daily struggles faced by their dementia patients.

Ms Pye said: "Our challenges will be nothing compared to the challenges faced by our patients every single day.

"Hospitals can be very big, confusing and frightening places to people with dementia, so by raising funds and awareness we hope we can help make their journey a little easier."

The funds raised will be used to make the hospital more dementia-friendly.

The team has previously raised funds to create memory walls, murals, and spaces for patients to talk and reminisce, which help reduce anxiety and stress for those with dementia.

By taking on their own fears this September, the nurses hope to raise a further £2,000 for additional improvements at the hospital, beyond what NHS funding can cover.Ms Favero will be skydiving Ms Favero will be skydiving (Image: Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust)

Ms Pye and Ms Favero will be skydiving on September 28, Ms Bickel will be shaving her head on September 20, and Ms Spiller aims to surpass her personal best in a 100kg deadlift.

Ms Favero said: "Hayley and I are both terrified of heights but imagine not knowing why you’re jumping out of that plane; our patients with dementia must feel this type of anxiety every single day."
