East Devon District Council has closed the floodgates on Mamhead Slipway and Camperdown Terrace today, after a forecast of 'heavy rain' on Friday.
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for estuaries along Devon's south coast, including the Exe, with high tides on the evenings of Thursday September 19 and Friday 20. A yellow weather 'flooding is possible' alert has been issued.
The Enviornment Agency issue alerts in the following order Flood warnings A red severe flood warning, a yellow flood warning and a yellow flood alert.

The floodgates at Mamhead Slipway and Camperdown Terrace will be closed as a precaution. Unless the alert is extended, these will be reopened on Saturday 21 September 2024.
The Environment Agency says that flooding is possible over the high tide on Friday evening.
A spokesman said: "We expect flooding to affect low-lying areas and communities in the Erme, Avon, Kingsbridge, Dart, Teign and Exe Estuaries.
"People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast."
