Women campaigning for state pension justice in Exmouth have been pleased to see their MP at a Westminster information session.

David Reed, Conservative MP for Exmouth and Exeter East, attended the WASPI (Women Against State Pension Injustice) drop-in session for new MPs on September 11.

On March 21, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman published a report into changes to women's state pension age.

It found that the Department for Work and Pensions was guilty of maladministration for not providing proper information to 1950s women about delays to their state pension age, causing them injustice.

The report stated that these women should receive compensation.

Christine Reeve, a WASPI campaigner, said: "It was great to see our local MP among the 150 plus who attended the session.

"He is fully supportive of the thousands of local 1950s women and recognises the injustice we face.

"I'm sure he will do all he can in Parliament to see that we get the compensation we are owed as recommended by the Ombudsman."

Hilary Simpson, WASPI national chair, said: "The drop-in session was a resounding success, with a record number of MPs attending.

"We were delighted to be able to speak to them individually, answer their questions and make sure they are fully aware of the need for progress to be made on compensation as quickly as possible following the publication of the Ombudsman’s report almost six months ago."

WASPI representatives recently met with pensions minister Emma Reynolds to discuss their case.
