It has been a busy spring and summer for Exmouth RNLI beach lifeguards, as they reflect on the number of incidents they have dealt with this year.
Everything from lost children & inflatables caught on the tide to the most serious of medical situations, including working in partnership with the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat team on numerous shouts.
The team provides cover for all of the main beaches in the area and have been engaged in a multitude of incidents on both the water and the land.
They will return next year, during the bathing water and busy summer season in Exmouth. They use jet skis and beach huts on the sand to make sure they are a visible presence on the beach.
Exmouth RNLI has issued this safety advice to anyone enjoying the beach, as the lifeguard cover comes to an end.
- If you see someone in difficulty call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Don’t attempt a rescue yourself.
- If you get into difficulty yourself fight the instinct to panic and FLOAT to live.
- If entering the water let a family member or loved one know.
- If you are using the water take a floatation device and a means of communication.
A spokesman for Exmouth RNLI said: "Thank you to our amazing RNLI lifeguard colleagues!
"After a busy spring & summer our RNLI Lifeguard colleagues have now stood down for the season and will be taking a well earned rest until 2025."
