A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for all of the south west with thunderstorms expected.
People in the south west are being warned if they live in an area that is affected by flash flooding, then they need to be prepared, due to the amount of rain expected late today (Monday, October 7).
In the last 24 hours, we have had 16mm of precipitated rain which is expected to return later tonight along with the storm.
According to the Met Office, 65% of rain precipitation is predicted.
Precipitation is water that falls to the Earth from the atmosphere in liquid or frozen form. It can take the form of rain, snow, sleet, hail, or drizzle.
Thunderstorms are most likely to happen between May and August each year.
The number of thunderstorm days in the UK can vary from less than five in a quiet year to more than 20 in an active year.
The peak time that we can expect the most rain is expected to be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
A spokesperson from the Met Office said: "Areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move northwards across southern parts of England and Wales later Monday, clearing northwards overnight.
"Some places will see 20-30 mm of rain within 2-3 hours, with a small chance that a few places could receive 40 mm.
"Thunderstorms are most likely for south-facing coastal districts, and hail and some strong gusts of wind could accompany the heaviest showers and thunderstorms."
