Former Top Gear presenter and TV personality James May has been spotted in Budleigh Salterton this afternoon (October 7).

James May is best known for starring in the hit BBC One show Top Gear, with colleagues Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, where many times they called him 'Captain Slow.'

An eagle-eyed resident of East Budleigh, Nigel Pearce, said he spotted 'Captain Slow' cycling in and around East Budleigh near The Walter Raleigh Pub.

Other residents also spotted him and Nigel was surprised when someone said that it was him in Budleigh, filming with a TV crew. Nigel replied: 'OMG it was HIM.'

A post then appeared on the Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club Facebook page showing May stopping for a spot of lunch and to have a look around the new clubhouse, which held its official opening in November last year.

More than 400 visitors flocked to the informal opening on Friday, November 10. The new clubhouse cost two million pounds.

Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club (BSCC) threw open the doors of The Holt, the exciting new venue for cricket and for the community, in a 'sneak peek' event.

Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club posted on Facebook and said: "We were very excited to have TV's James May and his production crew pop into the club for lunch today.

"He was very impressed with our new clubhouse which he described as beautiful."
