East Devon District Council has announced that the floodgates at Mamhead Slipway are closed as from this evening (Wednesday October 16).

The floodgates at Mamhead Slipway in Exmouth are currently closed due to an Environment Agency flood alert for estuaries along Devon's south coast, including the Exe.

A number of flood alerts have been issued in East Devon today, after heavy and persistent rain battered the region overnight and today.

An amber 'flooding is possible' warning has been issued for Lympstone and Exmouth, and the south coast and River Exe.

East Devon District Council, who are in charge of the floodgates in Exmouth posted on Facebook at around 4pm today, informing residents that the gates will be closed and issued his advice on how residents can stay safe during flood events by avoiding entering floodwaters, following Devon County Council's Devon Alert page for updates about driving conditions and keeping dogs on leads during walks
