Older people in Exmouth are being warned to watch out for scams.
Age UK Devon’s Scams Awareness Service, funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation, is dedicated to safeguarding the elderly from fraudsters.
The initiative comes in response to recent data from the Office for National Statistics, which revealed that 40 per cent of all crimes are scams.
Age UK Devon is now aiming to prevent older people from falling victim to these criminals, who often use sophisticated techniques to target the elderly.
The service is designed for people aged 50 and over, with a special focus on those who have already been scammed or are considered vulnerable.
Sophie Littlewood, chief executive of Age UK Devon, said: "We know how devastating scams can be, not only financially but also emotionally.
"Therefore, we are proud to be offering our Scams Awareness Service, to older people in Exmouth and across Devon.
"Empowering them with the knowledge, tools and support they need to stay safe from scams."
Age UK Devon is set to offer awareness talks to local community groups in Exmouth, as well as one-to-one advice sessions for individuals.
Those interested in hosting an awareness talk or requiring one-to-one advice are encouraged to contact Age UK Devon.
