The application for planning permission for a new community sports centre by the local boxing club needs careful study and review.

Note that (boxing) large championship events and national events are intended.

Superficially it appears to be a positive proposal; in reality, it poses a serious threat to the immediate area on grounds of access for traffic, parking and noise.

The Warren View sports ground is (as I understand) an old clay pit.

It forms an amphitheatre which is completely surrounded by housing of all types, most of which is elevated around the perimeter.

The club proposes opening hours of 8am to 10pm with inevitable consequential noise, especially after the anticipated boxing events.

No doubt there will be applications for extended licensing hours for such events.

Noise will be enhanced very considerably by the topographical nature of the amphitheatre.

Entry to and exit from the A376 is via Bellevue Road or Southern Road into Carter Avenue.

The exit onto the A376 from Bellevue Road is not ideal.

The estuary end of Halsdon Avenue & Carter Avenue are part of national cycle route No 2.

For bigger events parking will spill out onto both roads.

The current users of Warren View are youngsters of all ages partaking in football training and matches, many of whom are brought by parents who often stay to watch and who park, mainly, within the grounds.

During the longer days of spring, summer and early autumn this is almost daily.

They will be disadvantaged at the very least in parking facilities.

Will they be able to use the grounds in the same way in the future?

This application appears to be a commercial enterprise open all day and evening.

The project is in the wrong place and should be refused outright.
