The founder of Devon carpets firm has released his autobiography.

Mike Burch, 86, was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Express and Echo in 2013.

His book, titled The Ginger Bred Man by Mick Burch, is available on Amazon and Kindle.

Born and raised in Withycombe, Exmouth, Mr Burch first made headlines in the Exmouth Journal after surviving a German aircraft attack on the town in February 1943.

He was later reportedly thrown from an express train at Wigan at the age of 12 on a trip to Scotland with the Exmouth Boys Brigade.

Following national service in the Devonshire Regiment, Mr Burch entered the carpet business, founding Market Carpets in 1965, which continues to operate in Exmouth, Tiverton, and Exeter.

He remained active in the community, founding the Great West Run in 1985 and co-founding Exeter Harriers.

He also project-managed the development of the Exeter Harriers' club headquarters at Arena Park.

A singer-songwriter, Mr Burch formed the Folk Aid committee, organising several fundraising concerts.

He also founded Barnfield Music Club.

Mr Burch's life story, including these events and more, is detailed in his first book.
