The Met Office has warned that strong winds due to Storm Bert will likely cause disruption across the southwest.

The yellow warning covers parts of Somerset and East Devon, including Exmouth, Sidmouth, Chard, and Ilminster.

It comes on top of another yellow warning for rain across the whole of Somerset and Devon as the storm hits the UK over the weekend.

The strong winds are expected to begin at 3pm on Saturday (November 23) and last until 9pm on Sunday (November 24).

The Met Office has said there is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, as well as coastal roads and properties, and said “flying debris” could result in injuries.

It warned of longer journey times, as well as cancellations to road, rail, air, and ferry services.

It also said there is the chance of damage to buildings, power cuts and disruption to mobile phone coverage.
