East Devon District Council says they have been made aware of a 'sewage discharge' by South West Water on Budleigh Salterton beach.
The notice was published on the council Facebook page on Thursday (November 21). They said: "We have received a report of a sewage pollution incident at Budleigh Beach from the Environment Agency. Sewage is being discharged from the Lime Kiln Sewage Pumping station.
"We would advise people not to swim or engage in water sports in the area for the time being."
"Our officers will be erecting signs and inspecting the area as soon as it gets light tomorrow. We will bring you more information as soon as we receive it."
No further update has been published on their Facebook page today (November 22) but Surfers Against Sewage app reports of a 'sewage pollution' alert in Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton this morning.
