Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew were lucky to be joined on a search exercise by three members of the HM Coastguard team on Sunday (December 1).
The team were from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Fareham, Hampshire, when Exmouth RNLI crew launch on a shout it is the JRCC team who make the request for them to launch and subsequently provide them with the ‘tasking information’, detailing what they are searching for and how the JRCC team wish for them to search.
The JRCC team are equipped with world class modelling software that allows them to provide very accurate predications on the likely location for a casualty.
After providing this information, they then act as the key contact point for the volunteer crews until the conclusion of the ‘shout’.
They are also the coordinating authority for any other assets that might be deployed in a search and/or rescue effort, including local H.M Coastguard, ambulance and police teams.
It was a privilege for Exmouth RNLI to host the JRCC team today, allowing them to experience the search capabilities on the relief boat, All Weather Lifeboat Shannon 13-32 RNLB Ruth and David Arthur, and to share information that will help in their combined mission to save lives at sea.
