East Budleigh Reserves were back to winning ways against Colyton last Saturday but the Jays were not comfortable until Ben Wilks added a clinching goal a quarter of an hour from the end.
Dan Atkinson’s effort was deflected in by a Colyton defender midway through the second half and he then flicked on a throw from Lewis Fletcher to find Wilks, who produced a tidy finish to notch for the third consecutive game.
East Budleigh 1sts produced an excellent all-round display to win 5-2 at Chard in Division 1 and, with two games to play, kept alive their chance of promotion.
Nathan Penhallurick and Jack Greenslade from the penalty spot gave Budleigh a 2-1 interval lead. Budleigh controlled the second half and Rian Hill, Jack Howarth and a second from Greenslade took their tally to five.
After a trip to Topsham on Tuesday, the Jays complete what has been a fine season on Bank Holiday Monday with a home game against Halwill.
Budleigh Salterton FC Ladies played their final league match of the season but went down to a rare defeat, losing 3-1 at Westexe Park Rangers. Suzy Osborne scored the goal for the Robinettes.
There is still the matter of the DWFL LEAGUE CUP for Budleigh Women to take on. In the Eastern Division section Semi Final on Friday, April 29, the Budleigh Ladies travel to Crediton United Ladies , while on the Sunday, West Exe Park Rangers are up against Exeter City Women 2nds. The winners will meet in the Eastern Final.
In the Western Division section Semi Final, both being played on Sunday, it will be Teignmouth Ladies up against Shaldon Villa Ladies, and Torquay United Women 2nds take on Activate ladies for a place in the Western Final
The winners of the two sections’ Finals, will meet in a Grand Final for the League Cup trophy.
There was a frustrating afternoon for Budleigh Salterton men, as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at Topsham Town in the Devon Football League Supplementary Cup. Budleigh next travel to Teignmouth on May 4.
