Shore anglers are out and about catching again, with beaches all along the Devon coast producing the expected Whiting after dark, with the days producing the odd Mackerel and Gurnard as well.
Chris Locke travelled to the Bristol Channel and, using a whole mackerel as bait, landed a fine fish of 10lbs 8oz, along with Conger Eels up to 9lbs, but this was bettered by Gary Gatland who fished the Tamar for his fish a whopping 12lbs.
Now is the time to hit the estuaries for the Bass and the Flounders, as shown by Saleem Ali and Daniel Patrick. Saleem found Bass, Flounders and a bonus Golden Grey Mullet, all keen to take his ragworm baits fished on flowing traces, with Daniel also finding Flounders. Exmouth SAC report that its members are fishing locally and catching plenty of Bass and Flounders.
Stuart Pike took a party out on his boar ORCA from Beer this week with Peter Gibson landing a Red Gurnard of 1lb 9oz and a nice early season Spurdog of 11lbs 9oz, both fish took a Mackerel strip fished on a long flowing trace.
Members from Sidmouth SAC also fished out of Beer on Sambe. Skippered by Kim Aplin, they had a great day on the Black Bream sand Gurnards, with Chris Woodley boasting a Pout of 2lbs 11oz.
The Tuna Chart tagging programme has now finished this year with a lot learned for the boats involved, Torquay’s Silver Halo and Brixham’s Spot On are now looking forward to a good winter’s wreck fishing.
A reminder that this coming weekend is the National Flounder Championship fished on the Teign and that the sign on is on Thursday and Friday, full details from Teignmouth SAC.
