The Club and the Ladies Section at East Devon Devon Golf Club have a lot of ‘catch up’ matches and events to cram into the schedule. Some weeks we will be playing Trophy competitions, alongside monthly Medals and Stablefords.
The Course itself has a Ladies par of 74, meaning that a nett score of less than 74 means that the player has ‘beaten’ the Course and, much more often, a nett score of greater than 74 means that the player has lost to the course.
The Ladies started their season with a pairs event that saw a winning score of 41 points submitted by Sandra Sydenham and Rosemary Pratt. Mary Knight and Sandra Morton followed with 40 points. Our Ladies Vice Captain braved cold weather to sit on the Club’s patio to welcome us all back after the 18th – a very nice touch, thank-you Barbara.
In the Fields in Trust Four-Ball Better-Ball, the winning pair was Gill Laver and Pippa Norman with a storming 45 points. They were closely followed with 44 points by Jasmine Clapson and Deirdre Mackness, who took second place on countback.
We played our first Stableford competition for the season and Stableford finals (winners from 2019 and 2020). Helen Chivers with 42 points won both Division 1 and the Stableford Final for Division 1. Division 2 was won by Annie Dent with 40 points. The Division 2 Stableford Finals winner was Deirdre Mackness with 37 points.
Strong winds greeted 71 Ladies in the Spring Meeting Medal. Helen Chivers, with a gross score of 85, has won the Baker Cup for best gross overall score. Linda Anderson, with a nett score of 77, beat Helen into first place in Division 1.
Division 2 saw Deirdre Mackness coming home with a best nett overall score of 76, beating Diane Bourne, also on 76, by countback. Deirdre wins the Burden Cup for this achievement. The final competition within this event was for the Club Medal Finals spanning 2019/2020 and our Silver Division winner was Helen Chivers on her nett 77 score, whilst Bronze Division was topped by Julieta Steiner with an 80 nett score.
