Lympstone Boxing club have funding agreed with support from the Exeter Chiefs Foundation and Sport England for an exciting new project to improve and extend the club’s training facility in Exmouth.
Work will begin in May to allow for an extra boxing ring, additional training stations and floorspace. The club’s treasurer, Mike Kelsall-Spur, has worked tirelessly to secure the funding.
The support of the Exeter Chiefs Foundation will see Lympstone ABC partnering with the Premiership club to host boxing events at their Sandy Park Stadium in 2022.
An extraordinary 2020 wasn’t lost on the club as they have maintained their fitness regime with the boxers whilst continuing to plan for the future.
The club hopes the doors of the new facility will be open in the summer and very much welcome all local residents to join. Whether looking to participate in the sport or simply get fit, the club will have a programme that suits the community.
Club Chairman Tommy Mcphee said: “We want to offer coaching and competitive opportunities in boxing and fitness whilst promoting the values of hard work, discipline and respect.
“We want to develop opportunities for sport and fitness support to those in the community with mental health issues, appropriate now more than ever.
“It’s a very exciting time for the club and we will, for sure, have one of the premier boxing facilities in the South West and want to be at the very peak of England Boxing. The club wants to make champions whilst growing in stature as a community club. The support from the Exeter Chiefs foundation is the beginning of a very bright future for the club.”
Club coach Paul Silk added “It’s been tough not being able to be in the gym and compete in the sport we all train so hard for, so we can’t wait to get back in there.
“With the opportunities the new facilities and partnerships will create, I feel really optimistic that we will come back stronger as a club and look forward to a bright future for all at Lympstone ABC.”
