Exmouth Town continued their pre-season with two home games last week and over 500 spectators witnessed two emphatic victories. Whilst game time is probably more important than results, it’s also good to see that players have not lost their scoring touch.
On Wednesday evening, Town entertained last season’s Western League rivals, Wellington, and goals from Levi Landricombe, Ethan Slater and a Jordan Harris penalty gave them a 3-0 half-time lead. After the visitors had pulled a goal back, Ben Steer completed the scoring.
Against an Exeter City Academy side on Saturday, Town ran out 5-2 winners in a very entertaining game.
Before the match Town, officially opened their new Turnstiles block. Various businesses and members of the Exmouth Town Supporters Group were present, all of whom had contributed to the success of the project either through financial donations, supply of goods and materials or sheer hard graft.
The turnstiles had been purchased from Vauxhall Motors FC based in Ellesmere Port on Merseyside and had originally been installed at Anfield. They had been collected and brought to Devon by life-long Exmouth supporter, Simon Bull and “Bully” and Town chairman, Stuart Shaw, performed the opening ceremony.
After the game, the Chairman thanked Simon for his continued support of Town over many years and presented Simon with a plaque confirming he had been made a life member of the club.
In the match itself, the young City side gave a good account of themselves and scored two quality goals but they were up against a Town side who also produced some outstanding finishes.
Ben Steer opened the scoring on nineteen minutes with a calm finish and Ace High doubled the lead before half-time. Town’s third goal was a result of free-flowing football, an excellent cross from Steer and there was Landricombe to volley the ball into the bottom corner. A push on Steer resulted in a penalty duly despatched by Landricombe, who completed his hat trick to earn the man of the match accolade.
This weekend, Town travel to Okehampton Argyle, now managed by Kevin Miller, kick-off 3pm.
