Bass, Bass and more Bass. They are everywhere at the moment from the shingle beaches to the east of our region, the estuaries, the rock marks, the South Hams and all around Plymouth.
A question new anglers often ask is “what is the best way to catch a Bass,” at the moment any method seems to work. The shingle beaches are producing the better fish to big squid or fish baits, whilst in the estuaries worm or crab baits seem to do the trick along with live prawn, if you can get them, although you may have to fish through the smaller fish before landing a better sized one.
Dedicated lure anglers fish all venues with a variety of soft plastic, hard plastic and metal lures with surface lures providing great action at times. With plenty around at the moment, now might be a good time to try fly fishing for them.
