Madeira have had a couple of friendly fixtures this week, one at home and one away, with one win and one loss.
Three men’s triples teams travelled to Isca and were disappointed to lose all three games and overall by 38 shots to 60. Danny Doran and his team achieved the closest result for Madeira of minus three shots.
Madeira welcomed three mixed rinks from Taunton Dean for an enjoyable afternoon. The home team were successful, this time winning by 48 shots to 39 thanks to Joan Mansell playing with K Bister, Janette Grundy and Bob Finch, who achieved an impressive plus 20 win.
Last Wednesday, the Men played Honiton in the Over 60s League, winning on three of the four rinks, scoring 17 points to 3. A single shot on the last end by Dave Macaulay's team, having lost the previous five ends, helped to give Madeira an 82 to 81 shot difference and 8 game points.
Scores were Colin Hughes, Dave Mansell, Dave Tucker and skip Cliff Skinner 24 shots to 18, a good winning return for Cliff following injury, plus Roy Lemin, Chris Reed, Ian Munro and skip Dave Macaulay 24 who won by 22 shots to 16.
The Madeira Ladies representative team was disappointed to lose to Honiton on Saturday in the National Yetton Trophy competition. Both teams won two rinks each, one at home and one away, but the shot difference was very much in Honiton’s favour. Good luck to them in future rounds.
