Exeter City’s Head of Coaching, Brad Miller, came away from South Wales extremely happy despite seeing the club’s Under-18s concede a late equaliser in Saturday’s league encounter with Newport County U18s.
Despite Exeter dominating the territory and possession stats, it was Newport who found a breakthrough despite their limited time on the ball.
The hosts doubled their lead at the midpoint of the first half, but the Grecians pulled a goal back just before half-time after Aaron Hale and Richards combined. Alfie Cunningham ran through and dribbled his way around the Exiles goalkeeper, before slotting home, to make it 2-1.
Jake Richards tucked home Kye Cooper's cross to restore parity with plenty of time still remaining. The Grecians took the lead for the first time with a moment of real quality. Richards whipped a free-kick effort into the back of the net to send the Westcountry contingent wild but Newport pinched a late leveller.
