The Budleigh Indoor Mixed Triples League is halfway through their season, with matches played each Wednesday, and the enthusiasm for this format of the game has been absolutely fantastic.
As well as keeping your bowling skills sharp, the social side, as always, is really enjoyable and, best of all, playing indoor bowls is nice and warm!
At the beginning of the Indoor season, a total of 25 players signed-up for the Triples League and were allocated at random into five mixed teams, each with five players.
Each week, three members of each team are selected to play and the teams play each other on a Round Robin basis. The matches are played over 16 Ends and the overall winners of the League will be the team with the highest aggregate number of Ends achieved from all their games.
The League is sponsored by Cameron Jones Financial Management and Fiona Bolt, and the owner said: “It is great to be associated with such a competitive yet friendly Competition, which has attracted many of the Club's experienced bowlers, as well as players who have recently taken-up the sport.”
We will bring you news of all the final results once the Indoor League is complete and the club is extremely grateful for the support from players and sponsors.
On Friday, January 19, Budleigh Bowls Club hosted a Mixed Triples match against Honiton.
On Rink 1, the Budleigh trio of John Dill, Marilyn Foreman and Tony Mackness (Club Captain) came up against strong opposition and at half-time, the Honiton team were winning 15 - 5. The tea break provided the Honiton team with an extra burst of energy and they went on to win the game 25 - 8.
It was a different story on Rink 2, where the Budleigh team of Mo Bond, Andy Skudder and Ann Vincent were always leading and enjoyed a victory of 34 - 7. This gave Budleigh an overall win of 42 - 32.
Tony Mackness commented: "It is always enjoyable to host these friendly inter-club matches and we look forward to our next game with Honiton.”
