Withycombe RFC secured a home fixture for next weekend’s cup semi-final and became the only team in the two groups to win all three of their matches following a strong second half performance against Exeter Saracens, winning 36-5.
Withies got onto the scoreboard in the eighteenth minute with a catch-and-drive from 5m out. Jack Fear emerged from across the line to give Withy a 5-0 lead.
After some strong defending against a determined Sarries outfit, the second try arrived as Archie Symons scored from another successfully driven maul. A very forward-heavy half was brought to a close with Withies taking a 10-0 lead into the break.
After the break, Withycombe turned on the style, increasing their lead with a score from George Doughty. The home backs were taking control of the game and this resulted in a lovely try, Tom Cooke chipping a clever kick over the Sarries defence and collecting the ball to dot down.
The visitors did get on the score sheet but were pegged back again by a try from man of the match Ben Bolwell. The final score of the day came from Joe Blyth and Withycombe now have a home semi-final against South Molton on Saturday.
