Exmouth Cricket Club celebrated a proud day in the history of the Maer with a return to the hardball game for the first time in many years.
Playing in the Super 8’s League, the team made the step up from softball to hardball at Topsham St James and opened with an impressive 98/3 against their more experienced hosts. Topsham, to their credit, chased down the target with a fluent batting display.
In the second game, Exmouth again batted first and both openers came close to the enforced retirement of 30 runs, helping the team reach a competitive total of 97/4. The bowling attack then took control of the day, restricting Bovey to 84/4 for a 13-run victory.
There was also a great start for the Exmouth Ladies Central team, as they overpowered Alphington and Countess Wear with a dominant 84-run win. Great start to a breakthrough season for the club.
