Budleigh Bowls Club hosted their annual Triples match against the men from Sidmouth.
The Budleigh trio of Martin Creed, Les Gay and Brian Ward got off to a slow start and at the halfway point they were losing by just a single Shot 6-7. After the tea break, the Sidmouth trio of Scotty Archer, David Cockburn and Alan Herning continued their winning streak and, with three ends to play, were leading by 17-11. The Budleigh team then scored 10 shots in three ends to win, remarkably, 21-17.
Roy Ardiss, Terry Flynn and Stewart Jackson were extremely close with their opponents until Budleigh scored five shots on the ninth end. They never looked back and went on to win 17-11.
It was a different story for the Budleigh trio of Tony Gooding, Tony Mackness and Andy Skudder. The Sidmouth team of Clive Brook, Derek Mumford and David Parsons continued produced excellent bowls and enjoyed a victory of 24-12.
The overall result was a narrow victory for Sidmouth of 52-50 and Tony Mackness, Budleigh Club Captain, commented: "Sidmouth provided some strong opposition and thoroughly deserved their victory. We will have to do better when we play the return fixture in August."
