East Devon Golf Club can report a great achievement by two of our ladies, Gudrun Nolan and Emily Morey.
The 2023 DevonGolf Women’s County Championship and the Lloyd Williams Salver were held at Yelverton Golf Club. The first day saw 36 holes of match-play, followed the next day by knockout match-play.
In the Championship Semi-Finals, Gudrun won 4&3 against Lauren McGinnis from Churston. She went into the Finals against Chloe Howard of Boringdon Park with her dad, Thorsteinn, caddying and her mum, Maria, watching.
The match had Chloe 3 up initially, ending the front half 2 up. The next few holes seesawed between the pair and after the 16th they were all square. Gudrun played a great 17th with a par 3, pitching on from the front apron to within a couple of inches of the pin, while Chloe had to take a penalty drop after landing in a ditch and pitching wider of the pin. One up going into the 18th, Gudrun finished with a seven foot putt and a par to take the match and win the DevonGolf Women’s County Championship 2023.
The winner of the Gold Medal was Chloe with two rounds of 72 for a 144, 2 under par 36 holes. Gudrun was runner up in this Medal with a 36-hole score of 151.
The Lloyd Williams Salver had Emily winning her semi-final match against Susie Carr of Exminster with a 3&2 win. In her final, she was playing Gilly Jarvis of Yelverton and after another tight match, Gilly won through beating Emily 2-1,
Our warm congratulations go to both Gudrun and Emily for their excellent golf.
