With elite bowlers engaged in the later stages of County competitions and preliminary rounds of the club’s internal trophies in full swing, there was plenty of action on Madeira greens this week.
In the Exeter Over 60’s league, rinks skipped by David Macaulay and Clive Brinkworth both won well to deliver a maximum points haul for Madeira “B” against Seaton.
Madeira welcomed touring bowlers from Woodley BC (near Reading) for a keenly fought contest ensued on challenging greens. If there was a home field advantage, it was not apparent, as the lead swung back and forth, until a five on the penultimate end cemented an overall win for Woodley by a score of 120 - 113. Top Madeira rink: Mike Ball, Jude Latta, Martin Clook and skip Mary Ann Dowrick.
Broadclyst made the shorter journey to Exmouth with four triples and they received a hot reception from Madeira, who won on three rinks and tied the fourth to ease to overall victory 83 - 58.
Light rain provided some relief towards the end of the match, where a consistent performance from Dee Williams, Joan Brinkworth and evergreen skip Vic Doidge delivered a 24 - 11 top rink performance.
