The young cricketers from Exmouth U11s and U12s were in East Devon Cup semi-final action this week, with both teams coming out on top.
The U12s were first up and they produced a sensational team performance against an Exeter team that had narrowly beaten them in last year's final.
After losing the toss, Exmouth were asked to bat first, and Josh Holmes (20) and Jacob Hayes (18) got them off to their customary good start, putting on 53 for the first wicket.
Jack Dawson (31 ret) and Oli Dobrijevic (10) then put on 46, before some fantastic late striking from Lucas Bennett and Harry Rintoul took the total to 136-5 in their 20 overs on a pitch offering plenty to the bowlers.
In reply, opening bowlers Jasmyne Watson (1-6) and Tom Fitzherbert (4-5) continued their fantastic form, and this was superbly backed up by Nat Brown (4-14) and Rintoul (1-6), together with exemplary fielding from the whole team in incredibly difficult wet conditions. Exeter were bowled out for 38 in 15 overs, leaving Exmouth victors by 98 runs.
The U11s then joined the 12s on finals day in September, with a comprehensive 93-run victory away at Heathcote.
Fine batting again from Josh Holmes (31 ret) and Jack Dawson (35 ret) saw Exmouth off to a great start with Ethan Lewis (19) and Harry Rintoul (14) also contributing to a total of 130-9 in their 20 overs.
A great all-round bowling performance then followed with the wickets going to Tom Fitzherbert (2-2), Rintoul (3-8), Beth Holmes (1-3), Oscar Hoyler (2-2) and Lucas Bennett (1-3), plus a tremendous run out from Freddie Horne.
Finals Day for the U11s and U12s will be on Sunday, September 3.
The U12s continued their winning form with a narrow 12-run victory at Axminster last weekend. Beth Holmes and debutant Laila Escott both batted nicely but the total of 87-9 was not as much they hoped.
A determined last stand took the total to 122-9 and Reece Edwards was the pick of the bowlers, alongside some outstanding fielding, as Axminster finished short on 110-7.
