Budleigh Bowls Club has hosted their annual u3a Outdoors Bowls Competition, writes Tony Mackness, as 40 u3a bowlers played a Round Robin Competition in teams of four, with all the teams playing each other over two ends.
The overall winners were the team of Brenda Craig, Hilary Drew, Brian Robson and Richard Workman. Following the competition, the players and their guests enjoyed a meal provided by Jennie Stogdon and her team from the Pop-up Dining Room.
The Bowls Club have been working with the Exmouth branch of u3a for several years and each week up to 40 bowlers come to Budleigh to play a friendly game. u3a is a national charity and the Exmouth branch is one of the largest branches in the UK, with approaching 1000 members.
The u3s motto is Live, Laugh and Learn and the Exmouth branch offers nearly 100 activities, that include sports such as bowls and golf, arts and crafts, languages, book clubs, pub lunches and many more.
Tony Mackness, Captain at Budleigh, said: "The u3a bowlers were all novices when they took up the sport and it is most enjoyable to watch their progress and enthusiasm.”
